If you don’t know viognier, it somehow manages to combine the best bits of sauvignon and chardonnay, with the freshness and aromatic style of the former, and the richness and texture of the latter. It used to be made in minuscule quantities just in the Rhône valley, but is now grown the world over, and does particularly well in the sun-drenched deep South of France.

Domaine La Baume is based in Pezenas, way down in the Languedoc, and have really got this viognier just right – it has such expressive perfume, luscious freshness, and an almost honeyed opulence – it is definitely one of the best drinking examples around and is a delicious change from ‘the usual suspects’.

Tasting Note:
Big viognier style at a distinctly small price. Intense, sun-drenched golden yellow, this is a lively and exciting wine with an exotic and opulent character.
